Recruitment
Get the right person into the right role… and set them up to succeed.
Recruiting on farm isn't always as simple as putting a job ad online and waiting for applications.
Before you recruit, it's worth stepping back and making sure you know exactly what you need, what the role involves, what you expect from the person and what you're offering in return.
We can support you from scoping the role right through to getting your new employee settled in and set up for success.
-
We understand the realities of rural businesses and the people who work in them.
Louise is a rural employer herself as well as a Sharefarming specialist.
Emma works closely with farmers an understands that while some things work in a 9 to 5 town job, we need a different approach working with the realities of farming.
-
We make sure the recruitment and employment process is practical, fair and aligned with New Zealand employment requirements.
-
The goal isn't simply to get someone through the gate.
It's to find someone who can do the job, is a good fit with you and is going to succeed in the role.
Farmers have a lot on their plate, having an in-depth understanding all of the options out there is a tall order. Our process is designed to ensure we get this right before we go to market.
Know what you actually need before you advertise.
We’ll sit down with you and work through the role, the farm's needs and the type of person you're looking for.
We'll cover:
Why you're recruiting and what you need the role to achieve
Key responsibilities and day-to-day duties
Hours, roster and employment type
Reporting lines and management responsibilities
Must-have skills, experience and qualifications
What can be taught on the job
The personal attributes that will suit the role and your team
Accommodation, vehicle and other benefits where applicable
Pay expectations and overall employment offering
Any potential challenges or red flags with the role
You'll receive: A clear Recruitment Brief outlining the role, candidate profile, key expectations and what you're offering.
Investment: from $440 + GST
Step 1 - Scope the role
Louise, our in house Farm Systems & Sharefarming Specialist, will sit down with you and work through the role, the farm's needs and the type of person you're looking for.
Going to market for the wrong role will increase your costs and frustration when it doesn’t work out.
Step 2 - Recruit the Right Person
Once we know what you're looking for, we can take the recruitment process off your plate.
If you are recruiting an employee, Emma will take you from here. If you are recruiting a Sharefarmer, Louise will be your partner in this process.
You'll receive:
Recruitment strategy
Job advertisement
Application screening
Candidate phone screening
Shortlist and candidate summaries
Interview questions
Reference checking
Offer support
Employment setup guidance
Investment: from $2,420 + GST (11 hours of time)
Final pricing will depend on the role, advertising requirements and level of recruitment support required. Any in person interviews are an additional cost and may incur a travel fee.
Recruitment support designed for rural employers.
Once we know what you're looking for, we can take the recruitment process off your plate.
Our recruitment process:
1. Recruitment brief
We confirm the role, candidate profile and recruitment strategy.
2. Job advertisement
We write a clear, realistic advertisement designed to attract the right people.
3. Advertising
We advertise through agreed channels. Costs incurred will be payable by the client and will be quoted beforehand – or do we include the costs within the fee so we can say ‘we’ll cover these platforms plus utilise The Sharefarming Consultants socials and email list for even more exposure?
4. Application screening
Applications are reviewed against the agreed requirements.
5. Candidate screening
Suitable candidates are contacted for an initial conversation to assess experience, availability, expectations and suitability.
6. Shortlist
We provide you with a shortlist of suitable candidates and a short summary of each.
7. Interview support
We provide interview questions and guidance, and can assist with interviews if required.
8. Reference checks
Reference checks are completed for your preferred candidate.
9. Offer & employment setup
We support you through the offer and employment documentation process. As part of this package, you can choose to use a Sharefarming Consultants Agreement free of charge or purchase a different template at your own cost.
Step 3 - Set them up for Success
Recruitment doesn't finish when someone accepts the job.
The first few weeks can make a huge difference to whether a new employee settles in, understands what's expected and becomes a valuable member of the team.
We'll help you put some simple structure around the start of the Employment relationship.
(Sharefarming relationships will have a plan established with Louise on a case by case basis)

Frequently Asked Questions
-
We can run your full recruitment, monthly meeting facilitation, check contracts before you sign them, set contract milking rates based on data, house inspections, and dispute management.
-
Contact us through our contact us form or email Kat at admin@thesharefarmingconsultants.com to do an onboarding form or request a call back.
-
We are specialists in sharefarming - many consultants provide sharefarming consultancy as a secondary option to their farm systems or farm business consultancy but lack the knowledge of the contracts and relationship dynamics to do this well. We have spent years learning and understanding these dynamics, the costs, contracts, and legal back stops to support farmers more appropriately.
-
You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.
-
We offer a per hour model rather than a package cost for the majority of the work we do and you pay for what you use. The same for our contracts, we do not require you to pay an upfront membership to access our contracts - the price is the price listed on the products page.
Recruitment is done on a package cost to help you budget for this process.

Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
